Maggie Semple
Chief Executive
Maggie Semple is known as a successful business woman and entrepreneur. She is described as calm and considered – a voice of reason.
As a Director and Chief Executive of The Experience Corps Ltd, a consultancy that provides services to the public and private sectors, Maggie works on strategic change issues including stakeholder engagement with senior management teams.
From 2001–2007 Maggie was a Civil Service Commisioner and chaired over 60 senior level appointments. She has a deep understanding of how the Civil Service operates. Maggie has extensive experience of facilitating conferences and meetings for public and private sector organisations including the annual Ministerial DIUS Skills for Life conferences in London, Birmingham and York.
She was previously Director of the Learning Experience at the Dome, Director of Education and Training at the Arts Council of England, a teacher, school inspector and a deputy head teacher.
Maggie has been a member of several high profile Government and EU task groups including DfEE National Curriculum, DfEE Widening Participation, DfEE Life-long Learning, and DfES e-learning. She currently serves on a number of private, public and charity Boards including the UK Advisory Board of McDonald’s Restaurants; Chair of NRDC, an international research centre at London University; Chair of National Youth Music Theatre; Chair of The Science Museum; Trustee of the British Library, Brit School, De Montfort University, Sadlers Wells Theatre and City & Guilds Institute.
In 2001 Maggie was awarded an OBE for her services to education in the UK, and Honorary Doctorate from De Montfort University and in 2005 became a Fellow of the City and Guilds Institute and a member of its Council in 2006.
